Vessels on Seasearcher

Lloyd's MIU collects information on the world's global trading merchant fleet and has comprehensive information on over 120,000 vessels. Whether live, on order, under construction or scrapped we can provide details on over 200 individual vessel characteristics. If you need accurate vessel statistics, Lloyd's MIU has it covered from stem to stern.

Unlike our competitors we are not tied to any particular classification society. This freedom allows us to provide key information on a variety of information, including: vessel name and history, characteristics, IMO number, call sign, port of registry/flag, tonnages, owners/managers name, ISM and ISPS details, hull type and dimensions. We can also provide the latest reported position and destination details along with a vessel's inspection, detention and casualty status.

Movements

Each day over 12,000 confirmed vessel reports are provided by our dedicated global network of reporting agents. Our shore-based global AIS network is the world's largest and collects over 42 million positions each day, on average 20,000 unique vessels come into the range each day - that's almost half of the global trading fleet.

Lloyd's MIU attaches great importance to the credibility of the data we supply: A single uncorroborated sighting of a vessel is treated as just an unconfirmed sighting, until a second unrelated data source corroborates that sighting. Only when corroboration is obtained from another unrelated source is the information deemed fully credible.

A simple practical example of this:

  • A Lloyd's Agent has 'eye-balled' a vessel arrival/departure
  • A port authority data feed corroborates the agent's sighting
  • Our AIS network corroborates the other two sightings

Lloyd's MIU through its exclusive agreement with the Lloyd's Agency network is the only company capable of offering this multi-layered approach. Such experience ensures that we understand of the strengths and weaknesses of individual sources. For example, in the context of port navigation and vessel anti-collision safety; AIS data must be viewed as only an additional aid rather than something you can exclusively rely on.

We also have artificial intelligence filters validating and processing real-time data so that 99.97% of our vessel positions are published within seconds of the movement occurring. That said we employ over 70 analysts to analyse the remaining 0.03% of movements that are escalated for human analysis.
